Projects > Valley Power Plant 1&2

125 cfs with 2.0 mm slots
6-ISI T74-72 Tee Screens
Year Installed: 2015 & 2016

Client: WE Energies / J.F. Brennan
Engineer: Burns & McDonnell
Location: Menomonee River, Milwaukee, WI

Background: The 280 MW generating facility needed to comply with new intake screening regulations mandated by EPA 316(b) and the State Resource Agency. The plant's two existing intakes used traveling screens but they did not meet the fish protection criteria needed. The first project, Unit 2, was completed during a planned outage in Summer 2015. The second project, Unit 1, will be replaced during an outage in Summer 2016

Solution: ISI's retrievable brush-cleaned cylindrical screen system was selected as the project's preferred alternative. This "on-river" design was adapted to the existing structure to increase the screened surface area necessary to meet the 0.5 fps slot velocity, and to reduce the slot size to 2 mm to protect the small fish in the area.
