Cone screens are generally the better choice when intakes are located in shallow waters (rivers, estuaries, lakes) or when a screened intake must be placed out of sight for aesthetic reasons (such as on a golf course lake intake).  Cone screens are generally sited with the base at or near the channel bottom.

Cone screens can be operated at less than full depth since the intake pipe is below the screen unit.  The cone shape means more screen area is available in the lower section of the screen.  Contact ISI for a rating curve if the screen will be partially exposed during operation.
